South Jersey Campgrounds

Advetisement:
Nature-lovers who are happiest
sleeping under the stars have found a lot to love about
South Jersey. Outdoor enthusiasts
can call it a night at dozens of campgrounds nestled
throughout the region. You can really rough it and spend the
night in a tent. Or you can opt for a few more creature
comforts and doze off in a cozy cabin in the woods.
After a day of hiking, biking, fishing, bird watching,
swimming or cross-country skiing, you'll spend a peaceful
night in
Wharton State Forest . . . once you decide how you want
to spend it. Like it really primitive? Wharton has nine
wilderness sites, some of which are only accessible by foot
or by boat. But if you need just a few more amenities, pitch
your tent or haul your trailer into the Atsion or Godfrey
Bridge campsites.
Imagine being able to drift off with the scent of pine trees
wafting through the air. At
Bass River State Forest you can bed down in your tent or
trailer, or opt for one of nine lean-tos, six shelters or
six cabins. And the funny-sounding "yurt" has become one of
the more popular overnight accommodations at
Brendan T. Byrne State Forest. The three circular tents
are built on a wooden platform and feature a plexiglass
skylight, so you really can sleep under the stars.
Hang your hat - and your lantern – at one of
Parvin State Park's 56 tent and trailer sites where a
playground for the kids, showers, restrooms and laundry
facilities are just a short walk. Cabins are also available
and, as at all state facilities, there are several that are
handicap accessible.
Better hide those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!
Anybody who has ever watched the cartoons knows Yogi Bear
loves 'em. But what you probably didn't know is that he has
his very own family camping resort in Elmer. At
Yogi
Bear's Jellystone Camp Resort at Tall Pines, you can
bring your own trailer or reserve one of the cozy cottages
or rustic chalets. There are loads of activities for the
kids, special theme weekends, and of course, Yogi himself.
Pitch a tent, set up your pop-up trailer or pull your RV
into
Lake Kandle Campground where you can spend a night or
the whole season. Just a short drive from the Sewell
recreation area, you'll find the region's major attractions.
Or stay on-site and enjoy the paddleboats, swimming and
other activities.
Whether you are a rugged outdoors
person or need just a bit more connection to civilization,
South Jersey's many campgrounds make it fun and easy to
enjoy the great outdoors.
