Camden County Tourism

Camden County Tourism

Since Philadelphia and the Camden suburbs were first linked by bridge in 1926, Camden County has become an increasingly more active and thriving section of South Jersey. Today, it is home to a broad economic base, three major hospitals, and a whole host of arts & entertainment attractions for the whole family, from the Camden Children’s Garden to the Adventure Aquarium and more.

Camden Waterfront

One of South Jersey’s largest tourist attractions, the Camden Waterfront has opened up a whole new world of adventures to Camden County visitors, from water to land to air. Conveniently located just a mile from Philadelphia’s historic district and offering 11 affordable attractions in a one-mile radius, the Camden Waterfront is an easy trip well worth making.

Adventure Aquarium

The Adventure Aquarium at the Camden Waterfront features six acres of new creatures and exhibitions. All sorts of weird and wonderful animals, including sharks and hippos, call the Adventure Aquarium home. And the Adventure Aquarium also allows visitors to virtually swim among the giant squid and sperm whales with the Adventure Aquarium’s new 164-seat 4-D theater.

Tweeter Center

For music and entertainment lovers, the Camden Waterfront’s 25,000-seat Tweeter Center hosts the hottest acts in music. The Tweeter Center is an outdoor amphitheater in the summer and a climate-controlled theatre featuring Broadway productions and family-friendly entertainment in the fall and winter.

Wiggins Park and Marina

Located between the Adventure Aquarium and the Tweeter Center, the Wiggins Park & Marina features a promenade along the Delaware River, a 50-slip marina, and outdoor concerts on the Riverstage. Whether you want to relax and enjoy a free concert, take a summer stroll along the Delaware to see the Philadelphia skyline, or have a picnic at Wiggins Park & Marina – Camden County is the perfect venue. Or, if you’d prefer to be in the river than on its banks, you can take a ride on the RiverLink Ferry, the only ferry crossing the Delaware River. The RiverLink Ferry is by far one of the most entertaining ways to travel through Camden County.

Campbell’s Field Baseball Park

Just beyond the Camden Waterfront, Tweeter Center, and Wiggins Park & Marina lies the Campbell’s Field Baseball Park, where 6,450 baseball fans can watch the Camden Riversharks minor league baseball team play.

Camden Children’s Garden

For the kids, the Camden Children’s Garden is a “giggle fest waiting to happen.” In the Camden Children’s Garden, kids can take a ride on the miniature train through the Garden, explore the Butterfly House, or dig in a sandpit for old dinosaur bones in the Dinosaur Garden.

Walt Whitman House

Just a few short blocks from the Waterfront, there are additional sites to see. To catch a glimpse into the life of Walt Whitman, you can take a peek at the Walt Whitman House, the only house the poet ever owned. Complete with a giant collection of Whitman’s letters, photographs, furniture and personal belongings, the Walt Whitman House gives you a personal look at the talented writer.

Camden County Historical Society

For history buffs, the Camden County Historical Society is a worthwhile stop. Founded in 1899, the Camden County Historical Society collects, preserves, and presents the many historic resources, artifacts, and documents of Camden County. Harleigh Cemetery is another historical Camden County tourist attraction. This is the final resting place of Walt Whitman, Nick Virgilio (famous Haiku poet), and Mother Bloor, women’s rights activist and founder of the American Communist Party.
