Waterfront Arts

The Camden Waterfront also sets the stage for the vibrant arts community in
southern New Jersey. Five of its attractions serve up more than 200 performances
per year featuring everything from rock concerts and classical music to popular
theater, poetry readings, visual arts and modern dance.
Visitors can experience moving collections of art and
dynamic performances at the
Rutgers-Camden Center
for the Arts
which presents a delightful mix of performing artists and
theater productions. Or travel back in time with a visit to
the
Walt Whitman Arts
Center (WWAC)
to witness literary works inspired by the nearby residence
of poet Walt Whitman where he penned "Leaves of Grass". Both
the
Walt Whitman House
and the WWAC are open for visitation and host special events
and exhibits like WWAC's monthly Open-Mic poetry night, a
favorite amongst college students at Rutgers-Camden
University, Rowan University, Camden County College and the
University of Medicine & Dentistry, all located within a
mile of the
Camden Waterfront.
Whether you're looking for a glimpse of early America, an exhibit of
mind-inspiring works of art, an evening of soul-stirring theatre or the thrill
of live music, your journey ends at the Camden Waterfront.
Many cultural exhibits feature free admission and all attractions offer
convenient and affordable ticket-purchasing options for both individuals and
groups.
Walt Whitman Arts Center
The hometown boy not only made good, he set the literary world on its ear and
his namesake, the Walt Whitman Arts Center, is doing
the same. The Center has become a hub for authors, both well-known and emerging.
And for such a small place it is surprisingly active with a busy calendar of
author's readings, dance, ongoing Open-mic nights, music and theater
performances.
