South Jersey Festivals and Events
From the New Year's Day pajama party at the
Garden State
Discovery Museum to the
alcohol-free, family-friendly First Night New Year's Eve
festivals in Haddonfield and Mount Holly, South Jersey is
busy, busy, busy with memory-making events.
When spring has sprung, South Jersey's Main Street communities also spring
into action with events that will definitely help shake off
the last vestiges of winter. Burlington Day, the town's
annual May celebration, spills into the streets with
sidewalk sales, antique cars, music and entertainment for
the whole family. And the sound of a cracking bat signals
the start of baseball season for both the
Camden Riversharks at Campbell's Field and the
Trenton
Thunder at Waterfront Park.
A balmy summer evening can be an event in South Jersey when many communities host outdoor
family movie nights. Pack some snacks, bring a lawn chair or
blanket and settle the family in for an evening among the
stars of both the celestial and Hollywood variety. The arts
and culture get their day in the sun, too. Tucked away in
rural Elmer, each June, the
Appel Farm Arts & Music Center's annual Arts & Music Festival features
artisans, the visual and fine arts, top names in modern
music and a children's village with activities designed just
for the wee ones.
South Jersey celebrates the nation's birthday with fun,
fireworks and good, old-fashioned community celebrations.
Towns throughout the region stage July 4th parades and
picnics that culminate in displays that light up the skies.
But the biggest show is along the Camden Waterfront where the Delaware River is the stage
for fireworks that have gained a national reputation for its
eye-popping display and artistry.
South Jersey's produce is so bountiful that many fruits and
veggies have their very own festivals dedicated just to
them. Throughout the fall, the region's
calendar is jam-packed with Blueberry, Cranberry, and
Pumpkin Festivals that celebrate their annual harvest. The
harvest fests spill over into Halloween when ghost tours,
hayrides, haunted houses, and costume balls have become
traditions in this neck of the woods.
South Jersey doesn't let the cold weather stop anyone from
having fun. As the holidays approach,
Medford prepares to celebrate with
its annual Dickens Festival, where evening carriage rides,
caroling and yummy treats are a prelude for the arrival of
the big guy in the red suit, who pops into town to see who
has been naughty and who has been nice. No holiday season is
complete without the Nutcracker and other children's
productions and those in the know head to the
Trenton War
Memorial and the
McCarter
Theatre in Princeton to jump-start the holiday
spirit.
