New Jersey Camping and Hiking
Looking for the perfect New Jersey Campground or just the right New Jersey hiking adventure? How about both? Camping in New Jersey lets you get away from it all and sleep under the stars – without traveling too far. South Jersey campgrounds are abundant and close. Choose just how much you want to “rough it” and select a New Jersey campground found in one of New Jersey’s Parks or forests, or you can check out a private New Jersey campground offering the comforts of home such as in-ground pools, organized recreational programs, movies, game rooms, and even air conditioned cabins! Plus, New Jersey hiking is some of the best available, providing hikers with superb bird watching thanks to the region’s tidal marshes and wetlands.

New Jersey Hiking
New Jersey Hiking Adventures in the Pine Barrens
The Batona Trail is a New Jersey hiking route that runs directly through the New Jersey Pinelands. This 49-mile stretch is the main hiking trail through the New Jersey Pine Barrens. It starts at Ongs Hat on Route 72 and ends at Lake Absegami in Bass River State Forest.
If you hike the trail near Chatsworth, you can climb Apple Pie Hill and take in the artistic setting the Pine Barrens provide. The Batona Trail crosses Wharton State Forest. For an easy New Jersey hiking stroll, there's a simple, one-mile nature walk around the lake at Batsto Village.
The Batona Trail is marked with pink blazes, making it quite easy to follow -- unlike many trails in the Barrens' state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas. Topographic maps of New Jersey hiking trails are available at Wharton and Brendan T. Byrne state forests.
