New Jersey Outdoors

New Jersey Recreation

From raging rapids to crystal clear, serene lake waters, South Jersey’s waterways make for superb New Jersey recreation. New Jersey Fishing is very popular – and not just off the coast. There are rivers, lakes and streams galore, all waiting for you to drop in your line, kick back, and wait for the big one to bite. New Jersey boating is another great way to get in touch with nature. Whether you might enjoy the gentle glide of a canoe or kayak, or you want to head out on a motorboat for a spectacular view of Philadelphia from the Delaware River – New Jersey boating is a great way to have fun.

New Jersey Boating

Rivers, lakes, ponds, and of course, the Atlantic Ocean – it’s all here in South Jersey.

New Jersey Boating Locations

South Jersey is filled with places for boaters to shove-off. Cooper River Park in the Pennsauken area of South Jersey offers New Jersey boating opportunities of all kinds. Drop in a canoe or kayak – or even try your hand at rowing. Some New Jersey boating fans come here to watch annual world-class regatta action. Wiggins Park Marina, a part of Camden’s Waterfront, has a 50-slip marina – the perfect place for launching your motorboat, kayak, canoe or even a pedal-boat! Take in one of the many activities surrounding the marina, such as the Adventure Aquarium – or simply stroll along the promenade and check out the Philly skyline.

Another optimal location for New Jersey boating is Parvin State Park in Pittsgrove. Perfect for canoeing, this scenic run lets you take in a picturesque backdrop as you try your hand at fishing for some of the bass that lurk below.

Boating in the New Jersey Pine Barrens

Kayakers and Canoe enthusiasts love the secluded and adventurous waters the New Jersey Pine Barrens have to offer. Explore South Jersey’s Mullica, Batsto or Oswego Rivers and find the right rapids for your ability. New Jersey boating enthusiasts can even rent canoes from various outfitters within the Pine Barrens.

Where there’s New Jersey Boating, you’ll find New Jersey Fishing!

The greatest thing about New Jersey fishing is that the whole family can take part. Even if you have never fished before, South Jersey offers two Free Fishing Days, where children and adults alike can fish without paying a fee or needing a license. It’s a great way to try a potential new hobby!

So where are they biting?

Searching for more than just fish? Glassboro and Winslow Fish and Wildlife Management Areas offer the kind of quiet fishing holes that will make you one with nature – and will eliminate your stress for the day. Want to stay the night? There are campsites and cabins available here as well.

Two New Jersey State Forests that are filled with fishing opportunities include the Bass River State Forest and the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest.
