South Jersey Shopping

Ready. Set. Charge! Before you start
shopping in South Jersey, you'll need two things: really
comfy shoes and a charge card that can survive a really
serious workout. The region has such a diverse range of
shops, you'll not only find exactly what you were looking
for, you'll find things you didn't even know you wanted. And
with no tax on apparel and shoes, shopping dollars get quite
a workout.
Shopping on Main Streets
Even big city folks succumb to the allure of small town Main
Streets where you can find one-of-a-kind treasures and enjoy
the personal service and attention that you can only get
from a local shopkeeper.
Stroll down Kings Highway in Historic Haddonfield and you'll feel like a
Norman Rockwell print has come to life. Named "Best Shopping
District" by Philadelphia Magazine, the area features more
than six blocks of boutiques, home décor shops,
apothecaries, haberdashers, lingerie shops, antiques,
jewelry stores, and more. When your bags are too heavy and
you need a break, there are also dozens of restaurants and
cafés where you can enjoy a brief respite and sift through
your loot.
Collingswood is
the new hot spot to shop. A recent influx of the hip and
trendy has brought a mix of funky new shops, artisan
studios, restaurants, coffee shops, live street
entertainment, and edgy style to the classic architecture
along this portion of Haddon Avenue.
When it comes to shopping, atmosphere counts and
Mill Race Village
has plenty. Perched along the Rancocas Creek in Mount Holly,
dozens of shops featuring everything from pottery, jewelry
and home furnishings to quilts, teddy bears and home décor
are set in renovated, picturesque 18th century buildings.
There's plenty of atmosphere at
Palmer Square in
Princeton. The small park and village-like setting make
shopping for upscale names in fashion, children's clothes
and home furnishings a relaxing experience.
Remembrances of Things Past
When the colonists arrived back in the 17th century,
they brought a few things with them and after they landed,
they made the rest. All these objects eventually became
antiques, turning South Jersey into a mecca for old
treasures.
We call it Mullica Hill.
Antique hunters call it heaven. Up and down the Main Street
section of Route 322, this Victorian village is home to
literally dozens of antique shops, craft and artisan
studios, collectibles and other treasures.
There is an antiques boom going on in
Salem. Several new
individually-owned shops have sprung up alongside
Royal Port Antiques
on Market Street, a new, multi-level antiques center.
In addition to its mix of shops featuring a combination of
old and new, the village at
Rancocas Woods
holds monthly craft and antique shows. And High Street in
Historic
Burlington mixes it up with a combination of antiques,
crafts, African-American artists, upscale restaurants, ice
cream parlors, and more.
Fashionista Alert
We don't want to be a name-dropper, but we just can't
help ourselves. Hugo Boss. Adrienne Vittadini. Guess. Coach.
With its specialty shops featuring de riguer runway fashions
and name boutiques,
The Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton is more than a place to
find the latest looks, it's a whole lifestyle center that
also features sporting goods stores, designer accessories
and crafts shops. Just a stone's throw away, you can find
the latest "must have" items from Pottery Barn, Restoration
Hardware, and Smith Bros. in Marlton Square.
Of course, you can always find designer names in the
department stores and specialty shops of
Deptford Mall,
Moorestown Mall,
Burlington Center Mall,
Quaker Bridge Mall and
Cherry Hill Mall, one of the nation's very first
indoor shopping malls.
Farm Markets, Flea Markets, and a Touch of the Wild West
At the other end of the shopping spectrum, you can indulge
your inner cowpoke at
Cowtown Cowboy Outfitters in Woodstown where you can dress
your home and yourself in the best of the west.
If your shopping list includes a prize bull or quarter
horse, the Cowtown
Flea Market and
Livestock Auction in Pilesgrove can solve your problems.
Even if you are looking for something more mundane, drop by
on Tuesdays and Saturdays when, by its own admission,
everything imaginable is for sale.
It's not called the Garden State for nothing and South
Jersey farmers and flea markets live up to the nickname. The
Columbus
Farmers Market and
Berlin Farmers
Market are
among the largest, featuring home grown produce along with
all manner of treasures, both old and new.
...And Now For Something Completely Different
The delicate flowers, lifelike birds and detailed wildlife
porcelain sculptures of Boehm Studios are prized by
collectors around the world. Exhibited at the Vatican, the
Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the White House and
dozens of the world's most famous museums, these fragile
works of art are crafted and offered for purchase at the
Boehm
Showroom in Trenton.
