South Jersey Arena Sports
They are the Big Three of sports --
football, baseball and hockey. And they're all here in South
Jersey at family-friendly prices.
Even if you don't know a ground rule double from a grand
slam homer, don't let that stop you from rooting for one of
South Jersey's minor league baseball teams. The combination
of summer sunshine, hot dogs, and a day of family fun that
doesn't require a bank loan is worth the price of the very
affordable admission. And the user-friendly size of the
ballparks means no matter where you sit, you're close to the
action.
Today's
Trenton Thunder players are tomorrow's Yankee stars. In
the comfortable Waterfront Park overlooking the historic
Delaware River, the Yankees AA farm club team hones their
skills while playing some really good baseball. Once the
training ground for such major leaguers as Juan Padilla,
Dioner Navarro and Andy Phillips, the Trenton Thunder gives
fans a full season of power-packed baseball. Arrive early
and take a guided tour of the Yankee Club's one-of-a-kind
collection of memorabilia. During the 7th inning stretch, or
any time during the game, head to the kid's play zone. And
check out special promotion nights when you get even more
for your money with fireworks and giveaways.
At Campbell's Field on the Camden Waterfront, enjoy the
Camden Riversharks, the 2004 South
Division champions who play in one of the best minor league
stadiums on the circuit. Named "Independent Ball Park of the
Year" two years running by Baseball America, no matter where
you sit – even in the picnic area and kid's play zone -- you
are close to the action. Post-game fireworks make Friday
night games a hot ticket, and be sure to bring your camera
for the post-game kids' run around the bases following
Sunday afternoon games.
When you enter the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton for a
Trenton Titans game, you might not
know what the outcome will be but you will know that you are
in for an exciting night of hockey. A member of the growing
ECHL league, the Trenton Titans are the professional
development team affiliated with the Philadelphia Flyers and
the Philadelphia Phantoms, which means these guys are
serious. They go after that puck with all the speed and
energy you expect from a professional hockey team.
If you just can't wait for the fall football season to
begin, check out the
Camden Lynx and the
Gloucester County Generals.
Neither rain, nor heat, nor summer humidity will prevent
these adult amateurs from engaging in full contact football.
