Free your inner Tiger and go hit the links. South Jersey has some of the best – and some of the most unusual – public golf courses in the state.

Anyone can use a golf cart. Scotland Run Golf Club in Williamstown uses airplanes. Awarded four stars by T&L Golf, Scotland Run is not only one of the top public courses in the entire state, it is one of the most daring. With the help of nearby Freefall Adventures, you can strap on a parachute, leap out of a plane - accompanied by an experienced jumper, of course - and land safely at the first tee. What a way to impress the rest of your foursome!

A whole other set of challenges awaits at the Golden Pheasant Golf Course, adjacent to the Flying W Airport Resort in Medford. The semi-private golf club has elevation changes – some up to 40 feet -- on 11 holes.

Callaway Golf Clubs at Callaway Golf Pre-Owned

One of the newest additions to the South Jersey golf scene, RiverWinds Golf Club in West Deptford features a 72 par course with five holes overlooking the scenic Delaware River. White Oaks Country Club in Newfield gets its name from, well, the white oaks that line and separate the course. But it is the par 71 course and its 240 yard 17th hole, dubbed "the Toughest Par 3 in South Jersey," that will challenge even the most precise golf swing.

The combination of low greens fees and a well-maintained course makes the Pinelands Golf Course in Winslow one of the best bargains around. Add in the tight tree lines, elevation changes and short par fours and you have all the makings for a fine day of golf. Be sure to yell "fore" at Centerton Golf Club in Elmer. The wooded landscape attracts fauna and wildlife from nearby Parvin State Park.

The ongoing improvements to the mature Indian Spring Country Club in Marlton are only part of the attraction. The clubhouse gets as many rave reviews as the course itself. And just when you think you've mastered Wedgwood Country Club in Turnersville, whoa, you hit that back nine and it is a whole new game.

And once you've mastered those, there are still more. Once you hit the fairways at the Princeton Country Club, Holly Hills Golf Club in Alloway and Wild Oaks Golf Club in Salem, you'll need to put a punch in your putt.

Whether you are just learning the mechanics of a good golf swing or know the secrets of escaping even the most treacherous sand trip, there is a public golf course in South Jersey to challenge your skills.
