New Jersey may be situated in the shadow of New York's Broadway, but when it comes to offering world-class theater performances at affordable prices, the Garden State takes center stage. Throughout South Jersey's Delaware River Region, a wealth of large and small venues provides year-round high-quality entertainment that won't break your budget.

Located on the Burlington County Community College Campus, Foundation Theatre in Pemberton offers a wide variety of entertainment including a summer season, Children's Theatre Project and Fall Event/Spring Classic Series. In nearby Cinnaminson, the Burlington County Footlighters perform impressive live theater at reasonable prices.

Across the river from Philadelphia, the city of Camden is home to a number of award-winning venues. The South Jersey Performing Arts Center presents an exciting and diverse calendar of theater and musical and dance performances each winter/spring season. Adjacent to the waterfront, the Walt Whitman Cultural Arts Center features poetry readings and a variety of performing and visual arts in a neo-classical library building. Also, the Rutgers Camden Center for the Arts is home to the Walter Gordon Theatre and Stedman Gallery.

For quality family theater at affordable prices, Camden County is also home to Puttin' on the Ritz in Oaklyn, where professional performances are held in a refurbished 1920's movie theater. The Westmont Theatre Company, a professional regional theater in residence at the historic Westmont Theatre, built in 1927; and the Main Stage Center for the Arts in Blackwood, where audiences can enjoy theater, musicals, dance and kids' programs. A community-based theatrical company, Haddonfield Plays & Players also performs quality year-round entertainment.

Must-see venues in Gloucester County include the Glassboro Center for the Arts at Rowan University and the Washington Township Center for the Performing Arts.

Established in 1989, the Glassboro Center for the Arts features some of the finest professional theater, music and dance performances in southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia region, hosting artists who also perform at the nation's distinguished performing arts centers, concert halls, and theaters. The Washington Township Center for the Performing Arts is a major venue where national headlining acts regularly perform.

In Mercer County, a number of venues attract audiences from all over the tri-state area. Most renowned, McCarter Theatre in Princeton is one of the nation's premier regional theater companies. Under the Artistic Direction of Emily Mann, the Tony Award-winning McCarter Theatre offers audiences diverse programs of music, dance, and special events, featuring artists of national and international repute from a wide variety of disciplines and styles.

The Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall at Princeton University is also a popular venue. This 900-seat concert hall plays host to more than 100 musical and other public events each year. And other area colleges, such as Rider University in Lawrenceville, The College of New Jersey in Ewing and the Kelsey Theater at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, feature theater, dance, comedy, drama, jazz, concerts, art gallery and film.

The Off Broadstreet Theatre in Hopewell is another intimate venue that serves up dessert along with musicals, dramas, comedies and children's shows.

For seasonal performances, the Washington Crossing Open Air Theatre in Titusville hosts a diverse calendar of events in Washington Crossing State Park. And in nearby Trenton, the War Memorial Theater features live theater, music, dance, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Boheme Opera, American Repertory Ballet and other attractions.

In Salem County, the Appel Farm & Music Center has evolved into a multidisciplinary regional arts center. The center's programs provide opportunities for arts education, arts appreciation, and creative self-exploration to more than 34,000 children and adults each year. Evening concerts bring celebrated artists from around the world to Appel Farm's 250-seat theatre, while the Family Matinées present a variety of outstanding children's performances to local audiences.

Davidow Theatre at Salem County Community College in Carneys Point also offers performances of concerts, ballets, plays and musicals throughout the year. In July and August, the Oakwood Summer Theatre presents straight shows, musicals and children's shows.
